BRCA Micro National series Round 3 - Dudley Model Car Club

Well what a truly amazing weekend of 1/16th & 1/18th micro racing we have just returned from. The BRCA National Micro series visited Dudley Model Car Club in the West Midlands for the 3rd round of this exciting series of race meetings. Dudley is such a popular meeting on the micro calender that the pits were buzzing, the track looked challenging and fun, and some really cool cars were racing for the honour of wining this unique series. We spent the day filming and photographing the racing and the drivers...what a day it was.
Watch this space for a full race report coming shortly and stay tuned over on the YouTube channel for a film of the day, but for now, check out some of the shots from the meeting.

Local micro racer Andy Mountford came 2nd in the B Final with this Carisma GT14B buggy
The day was a real exhibition of not just some of the best micro racing skills you could care to witness from the likes of Phil Sleigh, Craig Harris, and Mark Stiles, but also a brilliant example of the fun community feel that this national series is about. The whole venue fizzed and cracked with quality racing and sharp banter throughout the days off-road carpet thrashing. Dudley Model Car Club had worked really hard to provide the travelling racers with quality track features, good pit facilities, and a fitting atmosphere for a really solid turn out of drivers from all over the U.K.
The bustling Dudley Pit area
The day proceeded with the customary practice heats that saw a a large number of drivers experimenting with Schumacher Mini Pins on the mixed carpet and slippy sports hall track surface. By the termination of practice most drivers had found that Schumacher Rally Blocks in yellow or white compound were going to be the tyre of choice for the coming qualifying heats. With both 2wd and 4wd classes racing it was set to be a busy days competition ahead.
BRCA's own Cris Oxley had his gear in tip top condition for the meeting
As the timed qualifying heats progressed a few of the field began to really shine through on the track. Phil Sleigh was ballistic fast, we are talking almost faultless runs and on one occasion he managed to lap the whole field and win his round! Phil is a real pleasure to watch and is a real inspiration to younger drivers in the series.
The concours shows the beautiful field in all their glory
Every driver we spoke to during the day was just so welcoming and happy to be part of such a great series of race meetings. The micro 1/16th and 1/18th class has grown in popularity over the last few years and with a few manufacturers releasing specific 'micro' scale race cars over the last 12 months, it looks like the genre is set to explode across the U.K next year. Quality people, brilliant driving skills, and a truly exhilarating days fun.
Micro star Dave Williams could be seen working on some of his famously neat electrical installs during the meeting
Mark Stiles, winner of the previous round shows off his gorgeous Losi Mini 8ight

Phat Bodies Si Osbourne ran this interesting proto buggy called 'Thud'
